If you don’t know who Band-Maid is, I urge you to check them out. They’re one of my current favorite bands and are quickly becoming a world-wide sensation. Band-Maid is a group of 5 girls that play rock music while wearing maid outfits. This may seem like a cheap gimmick, but they have genuine talent when it comes to music. They play their own instruments and are working more on writing their own material. This single is written by Miku Kobato (guitar/vocal) and composed by the entire band. Miku worked in a maid cafe and came up with the idea to mix rock music with the cute aesthetic of maids.
This particular single “YOLO” is a great example of their extraordinary talent. It’s heavy hitting, melodic, and has some great solo work. “YOLO” stands for “You Only Live Once” (which is how I’m going to refer to the song), and while I honestly can’t stand that abbreviation thanks to its connotations here in the U.S., I’m not about to write off what is a truly amazing song because of a title.
Anyway, that’s enough petty complaints. This quite honestly one of my favorite songs by Band-Maid and in general. Check out the music video below and pre-order your copy on CDJapan now before the limited edition is sold out.
